Jennifer Garner's Lemon Olive Oil Cake Recipe

Society says we can only have cake after dinner, but why not have it anytime we want? Actress Jennifer Garner and the chefs from Jon & Vinny's restaurant recently made their famous lemon olive oil cake on Instagram, dubbing it an "anytime cake". Here's how you can make it yourself:


  • 1 1/4 cups extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for greasing
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup raw sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon plus 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon plus 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup amaro del capo (an Italian herbal liqueur), optional
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons finely grated orange zest
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon extract


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 10" diameter springform cake pan with olive oil and line bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl whisk all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl whisk together olive oil and granulated sugar. Add eggs one at a time until mixture is a pale yellow color. Add milk, amaro del capo, lemon juice, orange zest, and lemon extract. Whisk until combined.
  4. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until it is well combined. Pour batter into the prepared baking pan.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until a cake tester comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 20 minutes, then remove from pan and let the cake cool completely on a wire rack.
  6. To serve sprinkle the top with powdered sugar and enjoy!
