Authentic South Indian Medu Vada Recipe For A Healthy Breakfast Or Snack - Slurrp

Medu Vada Recipe

Medu vada is a popular South Indian dish made with urad dal that can be enjoyed as a healthy breakfast or snack.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup urad dal
  • 2-3 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1 onion
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves
  • Oil for frying

Directions:

  1. Rinse and soak urad dal for at least 3 hours.
  2. Grind it with cumin seeds till you get a paste-like consistency.
  3. Add a little water and salt and whisk the batter vigorously to make it lighter and fluffier.
  4. Mix in tadka made with curry leaves, green chillies, chopped onion, coriander leaves, and ginger.
  5. Take small portions of the batter, shape them into balls, and flatten them to make a hole in the centre.
  6. Heat some oil and deep-fry the vadas until they are golden brown.
  7. Serve hot with chutney or sambar.
