Bobby Flay's Favorite Late-Night Dinner Is Actually Breakfast

Bobby Flay: From Grill Master to Breakfast Sandwiches

Bobby Flay is a celebrated chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, and Food Network star. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, has been inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame, and has won prestigious awards such as an Emmy and James Beard Award. Despite his numerous accomplishments, Flay remains both humble and humorous - a trait that shone through during our exclusive interview with him from his kitchen in the Hamptons, New York.

Flay is well-known for his grilling prowess, having hosted shows such as "Grillin' & Chillin'," "BBQ Brawl," and "Grill It! with Bobby Flay." As such, he spends a lot of time planning and executing the ultimate menu for his guests. But even the most talented chefs sometimes crave simplicity, and Flay is no exception. When he doesn't feel like cooking, his favorite go-to meal is pizza. However, when he does cook for himself, he enjoys simple chicken dishes such as chicken Parmesan or chicken piccata, or a classic New York bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich.

We were eager to try Flay's signature breakfast sandwich recipe, and after watching him make it on Instagram, we were convinced that we had to give it a try. Flay's 20-minute recipe involves constructing the sandwich in the correct order, achieving the proper ratio of egg to bun to bacon, and adding harissa chili paste. The end result is a perfect balance of flavors that will satisfy any breakfast sandwich cravings.

Bobby Flay's Signature Breakfast Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients

  • Bacon slices
  • Eggs
  • Cheese
  • Buns
  • Harissa chili paste

Directions

  1. Cook the bacon slices in a nonstick skillet over medium heat until crisp, approximately 15 minutes. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate and set aside.
  2. Discard all but 1 tablespoon of bacon fat from the pan. Crack the eggs into the pan, season with salt and pepper, and let cook until the whites are firmly set and yolks are not overly runny, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  3. Add cheese on top of the eggs and add 1 tablespoon of water to the pan to help steam the eggs. Immediately cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid for 15 to 20 seconds and allow the cheese to melt.
  4. To assemble, spread harissa on top of each half of the toasted buns. Add the egg with the melted cheese and the bacon, then top with the bun.

Whether you enjoy it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Flay's signature breakfast sandwich will surely satisfy.
