Description

Breakfast deserves something really special every once in a while. Pancakes and waffles are amazing for breakfast and brunch, but who doesn't love a delicious plate of french toast? This butter pecan French toast recipe is soaked in milk that's flavored with cinnamon and vanilla, then a sweet brown sugar syrup is poured over the top before baking. Did your knees just go weak?

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 slices bread
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Whisk eggs, milk, cinnamon and vanilla extract in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  4. Arrange the bread slices in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  5. In a separate saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, honey, and chopped pecans over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has thickened slightly.
  6. Pour the syrup over the top of the bread slices, making sure that each piece is covered evenly.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes or until the french toast is golden brown and set in the middle.
  8. Serve hot with additional syrup, whipped cream and fresh fruit if desired.

Note: While the french toast bakes, you have time to make brunch even better by making broiled grapefruit, breakfast pork sausage, crispy bacon or crispy hash browns.
